Title: Mighty Warrior Anointed Leader, Giant Killer
Theme: Seven Qualities of a Giant Killer, Warrior Leader
Scripture 1 Samuel 17:16-19
Introduction:
Before David died he was known as:
1. a mighty warrior
2. an anointed leader and giant killer
(1 Samuel 13:14) “David was a man after the Lord’s own heart.”
a) David had been anointed king by Samuel but there were some
virtues and character qualities he needed to develop to fulfill the prophesy
and calling on his life.
b) (1Samuel 16:11-13) and (17:15) Even tough David was anointed
king he served the king and his father until the Lord’s time was right.
Body:
David learned 7 character qualities needed to be a might warrior a giant
killer and an anointed king.
A) The Lord calls us to be a mighty warrior in His army we all have
giants who need beheaded and we are referred to in Hebrews as kings and
priest. So we too need to learn these 7 qualities.
B) King Saul and the Israelites army are in a face off with the
Philistines. (1 Sam. 17:3)
1) (1 Sam. 17:17) Jesse sends David down to see how his brothers
are and get a report on the battle.
2) There was a lot of hiding and shouting, not much fighting.
Goliath is a lot like the devil, doing a lot of roaring.
C) (1 Samuel 17:19-20)
We find the first quality of an anointed leader:
1) They are responsible and patient.
a) David didn’t just run off and leave the sheep he was
responsible for.
b) He learned responsibility out of a shepherd’s heart. (Ps.
78:70-72)
c) Being responsible and patiently waiting for God’s timing are
must qualities for an anointed leader.
D) (1 Samuel 17:25-27)
The second quality of a “Giant Killer”
1) He knows who he is in the Lord and what his enemy is not.
a) (vs. 34-36) Knowing how the Lord was with him in killing the
lion and the bear. He knows because he is covenant man with his God, the non
covenanted Philistine will be defeated also.
b) Notice God used him in the smaller things to prepare him for
the bigger battle.
E) (1 Samuel 17:28-33)
The third quality of a warrior, anointed leader and giant killer
must learn is to
Not Let Others Discourage or Stop Your Mission.
1) When people are hiding in a whole they don’t like faith
talking, devil knockin’, and water walking confident Christians.
2) They won’t let others put the “Your to-“on them. To young, to
old, to small, to big, to dumb, to late, to weak, ect.
3) These may be true but through the Lord Jesus Christ we can do
all things.
F) (I Samuel 17:34-37)
The fourth quality that a giant killer needs to have is to bring
to remembrance the past victories when facing new challenges.
1) Remember is a covenant word that reminds us of tour covenant
relationship with God.
2) (1 Samuel 17:32)
a) There is difference between being cocky and being
confident.
Cocky is about me. Confident is about Jesus.
G) (1 Samuel 17:38-39)
The fifth quality that an anointed leader or giant killer
can not use is someone else’s methods or anointing.
1) Only the gifting and calling God has given you will work
for you.
2) Don’t try to be someone else. (That would be one to many)
3) God made us unique and special, so just be you and with
God that is enough.
H) (1 Samuel 17:41-47)
Character quality number six for anointed leaders, might
warriors and giant killers is to be a Doer of the Word.
a) We have all had a giant in our lives shouting at us
telling us of the things that are going to happen to us, physically, mentally,
and financially.
b) (1 Samuel 17:45-47)
The first step in doing the word is to speak what the word
of God says in faith.
1) This should be our confidence to every giant we
face. “I come against you in the name of the Lord almighty and this day the
Lord will hand you over to me,
and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head.
And the whole world will know that there is a God in my house. Or in Jesus
name.
I (1 Samuel 17:48-52)
Giant killers won’t settle for half victories or compromise
with the enemy. They have learned that you must fight until the enemy is
defeated.
a) David not only killed the giant but he led the army of
Israel to defeat the Philistines.
Conclusion:
Seven characteristics of a mighty warrior, an anointed leader and a
giant killer:
1) Responsible and patient.
2) Knowing they are covenant partners with God.
3) Won’t be discouraged from their faith by others.
4) Remembers his past victories. If the Lord did it
once, He can do it again.
5) Uses his own gifting and skills.
6) Is a doer of God’s word by speaking his faith to
the giant?
7) Won’t compromise in half victories, fights until
it is finished.
A) (1 Samuel 17:25)
Remember the three blessings the king promised the
one who killed the giant?
1. Prosperity
2. A closer relationship with the king – marry into his
family
3. Freedom from imposed bondage
B) The principle behind these character qualities David
learned are qualities we must learn also. And if we do we can kill the giants
we face and rap the blessings.
